What frightens Tao Mengyan returns to Zangling Village, the place she left as a child, because of a recurring nightmare, and finds villagers who move like puppets trying to marry her off as a paper bride. Under a blood-red moon you search candle-lit shrines, a rundown home and tombs full of paper offerings and ritual charms, solving puzzles while the living dead wait for a wrong move.

Paper Bride 2 Zangling Village is a 2D horror puzzle game by HeartBeat Plus rooted in Chinese folklore, the sequel to Paper Bride. As Tao Mengyan you return to the village of your childhood nightmares, solve puzzles drawn from Taoist ritual and old customs, and try to escape a village that wants you as its next paper bride.

About Paper Bride 2 Zangling Village

Paper Bride 2 Zangling Village is the second game in HeartBeat Plus's Paper Bride series, released on Steam in May 2022 and also published on phones by Funny Game. It tells a different story from the first game, set in the village where its paper bride rite comes from.

Tao Mengyan keeps dreaming of something terrible in Zangling Village, which she left as a child, and goes back to understand it. The villagers greet her strangely, almost like puppets, and soon she is being pushed toward a wedding she never agreed to. You guide her through painted scenes of shrines, tombs, a poor village home and a forest under a red moon, across several chapters.

Play is point-and-click: examine scenes, collect items, read notes and solve puzzles, many based on Chinese characters, Taoist charms and folk customs. Compared with the first game, the makers added voiced dialogue, more clues and more suspense, including moments where you must avoid the living dead. A hint button helps with harder puzzles.

Players praise the art, the music and the folklore, and find the puzzles harder than in the first game, with some lost in the English translation. It suits players who enjoyed Paper Bride or Detention and like folk horror with real puzzles to think through.
