Taiwan's Red Candle Games made two of the most praised. Detention traps two students in a remote mountain high school in the 1960s, under martial law, where creatures from local folklore now roam, and you explore, hide and solve puzzles in 2D as the school's past comes back. Devotion moves to a 1980s Taipei apartment in first person, where a family's religious faith turns their home into a nightmare. Also from Taiwan, The Bridge Curse: Road to Salvation and The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication are first-person games of hiding from campus ghosts at night, built on university legends.
From China, Firework is the one to start with: a rookie policeman reopens a closed massacre case in a mountain village after a fire at a funeral, solving puzzles in the homes of the dead, and it is Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam. The Paper Bride series turns Chinese folk customs into hand-painted puzzle mysteries: a bride vanishes at her wedding leaving a dress of paper, and the sequel draws its puzzles from Taoist ritual in a village that wants a new paper bride. Hariti sends a mother into a decaying Chinese-style hospital after her missing daughter, among creatures drawn from old folklore.
Korea's best known is White Day: A Labyrinth Named School, the remake of a 2001 cult classic in which a student trapped overnight in his school hides from a murderous janitor and its ghosts. The Coma series is Korean 2D survival horror in the same school setting: in The Coma: Recut a student wakes in his school at night with a killer in the halls, The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters adds scavenging and crafting in a shadow version of the district, and The Coma 3: Bloodlines ends it across a nightmare Seoul. Ground Zero is set in Busan after a meteor has wiped out South Korea, in fixed-camera survival horror.
From Thailand, Home Sweet Home has an unarmed man hunted by a vengeful female spirit while he looks for his missing wife, and ARAYA sends three characters into a Thai hospital at night after the ghost of a murdered young woman. From Indonesia, DreadOut has a schoolgirl fight ghosts with her smartphone camera in a forgotten town, and Pamali builds its horror on folk taboos, where how you treat an empty family house decides what happens. The Scourge takes Vietnamese urban legends into a Saigon apartment block.
If you only try one, play Detention, or Firework if you like puzzles and investigation.
