Paranormal Entities is a free first-person horror game made in ten days for Scream Jam 2020. As a freelance cameraman for a ghost-hunting TV show, you walk into the dark St. Augustine Asylum with your camera on, follow the producer's voice in your earpiece and try to catch real paranormal activity on tape.

Paranormal Entities was made by Al Heck in ten days for Scream Jam 2020, and is offered on itch.io as a Windows download at whatever price you choose. It has been rated by close to three hundred players there.

You play Cliff, newly hired as a freelance cameraman for Paranormal Entities, the second most popular ghost investigation show on a hunting and outdoors cable channel. The job is simple on paper: go into the St. Augustine Asylum for the Mentally Ill, keep the camera rolling, do what the producer tells you over the radio and try to make contact with the spirits inside. A quiet night pays 500 dollars. Real footage of the paranormal pays a 2,500 dollar bonus.

The whole game is seen through the camera's viewfinder, its red REC light in the corner and a flashlight in your hand. The asylum is black outside that beam: corridors of barred cells, a crucifix in a hall, a pentagram on a tiled floor, walls covered in red writing, and a pale figure at the end of a passage. The producer's voice in your ear is your only company.

It suits players who like ghost-hunting horror and found-footage camera play in a short, free download, in the spirit of filming your way through a haunted building rather than fighting what is in it.

Tips

Play in the dark with headphones; the producer's voice and the asylum's sounds carry the night.
Take your time in each corridor and sweep the flashlight across the rooms, since much of the asylum is pitch black.
Some players find the music loud: set the volume before you start.
