What frightens Six guests invited to the mansion of Henry Stauf, a toymaker rumoured to be tied to the deaths of children, appear as ghostly live-action figures replaying the night; you walk his dark, shifting house alone with a lantern that reveals glowing symbols, and every shadow, creak and flicker hints at the dark power over the place.

Content: murder mystery themes.

The 7th Guest Remake rebuilds the 90s haunted mansion puzzle adventure with new puzzles and live actors recorded in volumetric video. You explore toymaker Henry Stauf's house, solve the puzzles in its rooms and watch the ghosts of his six guests to learn who the seventh guest is.

About The 7th Guest Remake

The 7th Guest Remake is a first-person puzzle adventure by Vertigo Games and Exkee, released in June 2026 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It brings back The 7th Guest, the mystery adventure from the 90s, with redesigned puzzles, new environments and live-action performances captured in volumetric video, so the actors appear inside the 3D house rather than in flat cutscenes.

Six guests have been invited to the mansion of Henry Stauf, a wealthy, reclusive toymaker. The cast notes on the official site describe a man who made lifelike dolls on the orders of voices, and dark rumours about a disease that took the town's children. His guests are a faded chorus girl, a washed-up stage magician, a hotel heiress drinking away her family's name, and others with reasons to want a second chance. Who is the seventh guest, and what does Stauf want with them?

You move through the house room by room. Each room holds a puzzle rooted in the mansion's lore, from a glowing box on the dining table to a panel of gears and gems, and solving one unlocks more of the house and more of the story. A lantern you carry reveals glowing symbols on floors, tables and walls. The mansion shifts around you through optical illusions, and the guests appear as pale, glowing figures acting out the night.

The fear here is slow and atmospheric rather than violent: dark wood rooms, a host who watches from the shadows, and the sense that the house is closing in as you go deeper. It suits players who like slow puzzle games and haunted house mysteries more than chases or combat. Owners of The 7th Guest VR could get the remake free, according to its Steam page.

Tips

  • Shine the lantern over everything in a new room; clues are often drawn on surfaces you cannot see without it.
  • Many puzzles echo the original game, so players who know it will spot familiar ideas, but the solutions are redesigned.
  • Take your time: there are no enemies to rush you, and the puzzles grow harder as the house opens up.
  • Pay attention to the guests' stories; they make the puzzles and rooms make sense.
