What frightens A germ keeps infecting and mutating people. You walk dark offices, corridors and labs by flashlight as zombies lunge out of the shadows, and you have to fight them up close with guns, blades and bats.
Content: gore, nudity, sexual content, jumpscares.
The Killing Antidote is a third-person zombie shooter from the two-person Chinese studio MetalStar Studio, in Early Access on Steam since October 2024. Journalist Jodi searches a ruined future city for the cure to a germ that turns people into mutants. You fight through dark buildings with guns and melee weapons, solve puzzles, and spend a lot of time in the wardrobe.
About The Killing Antidote
The Killing Antidote is set in a future where a germ keeps infecting people and mutating them, and the human world is close to ending. You play Jodi, a freelance journalist who digs into what caused the outbreak and goes looking for a rumoured antidote. It is made by MetalStar Studio, a team of two, and has been in Early Access on Steam since 5 October 2024, with new chapters added since then.
It plays like the modern Resident Evil remakes: an over-the-shoulder camera, heavy movement, a flashlight in dark offices, stairwells and labs, and infected who come out of side rooms. You have pistols, rifles and bows, and a bigger melee set than Capcom's games, with a quick dash, stealth kills and enemies that each need a different approach. Puzzles, machines and mini-games break up the fighting, and challenge modes add randomised rogue-lite runs.
The horror is in the dark corridors and the zombies lunging out of them. It is not a scarce-ammo game, though: Jodi is well armed and loot is random, so it feels more like action horror than survival horror. The other big pull is dressing Jodi up. There are hundreds of clothing items, hairstyles and makeup options, and the store page and tags are open about the fan service, including nudity and sexual content.
Reviewers call it a rough, low-budget Resident Evil clone that works better than it has any right to. Steam players rate it Very Positive. It suits players who want more RE-style zombie shooting in dark buildings, can live with Early Access bugs and do not mind the fan service.
How to play The Killing Antidote
- Buy The Killing Antidote on Steam and install it on Windows; it supports a controller.
- Start the story campaign and follow Jodi through the first building, picking up weapons, ammunition and items as you go.
- Aim with the over-the-shoulder camera and shoot or strike the infected. Dash out of the way when they lunge, and sneak up behind them for stealth kills.
- Solve the machines and code puzzles that block your way, then try the challenge modes and dress Jodi up between missions.
