The Upturned is a third-person horror comedy from Zeekerss, the maker of Lethal Company. You ride the elevator of the Upturned Inn, a grand hotel for the dead, through dark and strange floors full of monsters, hopping and throwing furniture to survive while a cosmic horror closes in.
About The Upturned
The Upturned is a 2022 game by Zeekerss, the developer who went on to make Lethal Company. The store calls it a frantic adventure: welcome to the Upturned Inn, a grand hotel for the dead, where you just want to find your room. Players describe it as a mix of horror and comedy in equal measure, and many say the same dark rooms that make them laugh also make them jump.
You travel up the inn by elevator, and each floor is its own place: a glass pane factory, an aquarium, an abandoned shopping mall, a wild west town. Most are dark, and you go through them with a torch in hand, a health counter in the corner and monsters somewhere ahead. There are over ten of them, big and small, and the store says each has its own personality and strategy; not all of them attack you outright.
The way you deal with them is physical. Your defining traits, as the maker puts it, are hopping and chucking furniture, and you can throw furniture at birds and birds at birds. Meanwhile Ik, the founder of the inn, talks with you between floors, and a great storm on the horizon is coming for you. What you say to Ik can mean life or death, and the story turns into a cosmic horror in which nothing is what it seems.
The Upturned suits players who liked Lethal Company or The Baby in Yellow: monsters in the dark that can be frightening, with a sense of humour that never goes away. Players who want unbroken dread should know it is often silly on purpose.

- Watch the health counter in the corner; dark rooms hide attacks from all sides, players warn.
- Some monsters are not hostile at first; watch what they do before acting.
