What frightens On Christmas night Mark is locked inside a strange house hung with Christmas lights, where an otherworldly woman obsessed with him stalks the halls. You hide from her under tables and behind furniture while your girlfriend Joyce talks to you by phone, and what you tell her decides whether she escapes or becomes another victim.

Content: jumpscares, blood, strong language.

Crimson Snow is a first-person Christmas horror game by Steppe Hare Studio. Mark crosses a blizzard to his girlfriend's house and finds himself trapped with an otherworldly stalker in a black dress, and has to hide from her while every word he says to Joyce on the phone shapes how the night ends.

About Crimson Snow

Crimson Snow was made by Steppe Hare Studio and released on Steam in March 2023 after a short early access, under the store title Crimson Snow (2023). It is a story-driven horror game about one Christmas night: you meant to spend the holiday with your girlfriend Joyce, but an uninvited guest has other plans.

The night begins with a phone call and a walk through a blizzard toward a single lit window. Once you are inside, the door locks behind you, the power fails and the festive house starts to change. A woman in a black dress, otherworldly and obsessed with Mark, walks its halls. You cannot fight her for most of the game; you hide under tables, wait out her patrols and slip past her while you hunt for what you need to move on.

Joyce stays on the phone through it all, and the conversations matter. The store says your fate and hers depend on your words and decisions, and the endings follow from what you tell her, how honest you are and what you ask her to do. The secrets of Mark's past come up along the way through notes, postcards and letters.

The mix of Christmas trees, stockings and gift-wrapped doors with blood and a stalker is the game's main idea. It suits players who like hide-and-seek horror with a story and choices, and anyone looking for something frightening to play in December.

How to play Crimson Snow

  1. Answer Joyce's call and choose your replies; what you say during the night changes the ending.
  2. Explore the house, read notes and postcards, and pick up the items you need to open the next door.
  3. When the woman in black comes near, hide under a table or out of her sight and wait until she leaves.
  4. Watch her patrol and slip past behind her rather than running into her path.
  5. Replay and answer differently to see the other endings.

Tips

  • Listen for her footsteps and bells; sound tells you where she is before you see her.
  • Learn where the hiding tables are in each room before you pick anything up.
  • Your answers to Joyce matter even when they seem small; note what you chose if you want a different ending later.
