What frightens You wander a family home frozen by tragedy, piecing together its secrets from letters, artwork and keepsakes, while a restless, malevolent spirit stalks you through rooms that grow more twisted and broken the deeper you go.

Content: jumpscares, violence, domestic abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, self-harm.

Infliction is a first-person horror game set in a once-happy suburban house. You explore its rooms to piece together the tragedy that broke the family, solving small puzzles and finding clues, while an angry spirit hunts you; you can only hide from it or stun it for a moment with a camera flash.

About Infliction

Infliction was made by Caustic Reality, a small Australian studio, and released on Steam in 2018; an Extended Cut followed on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It belongs to the line of house-bound horror that P.T. made famous, with a photorealistic home that changes as you play.

You come back to a house that was once full of family life. Drawings on the fridge, letters in drawers, photos and a child's room tell what happened here, piece by piece, and the story is grounded in real-world domestic tragedy: broken hearts, betrayed trust, grief and loss. Each discovery and puzzle opens new rooms, and the deeper you go, the more the house fractures, with corridors and spaces that should not be there.

You are not alone in it. A restless spirit roams the house and hunts you while you look for clues. It cannot be fought; you hide, wait and listen, and a camera flash or another light source can stun it long enough for you to get away. Being caught is the game's sharpest scare.

It deals with abuse and self-harm and is meant for adults. It suits players who liked P.T., Visage or Layers of Fear and want a shorter, more intimate haunted-house story.

How to play Infliction

  1. Explore the house in first person, opening drawers and doors and reading notes, letters and diaries.
  2. Find and use items to unlock new paths and rooms.
  3. Listen for the spirit; when it comes, hide or get out of its sight.
  4. Use a camera flash or another light source to stun it briefly and escape.
  5. Piece the family's story together to reach the end, then try the New Game Plus.

Tips

  • Search every room thoroughly; small mementos carry both story and clues.
  • Know your escape route before you start reading a long letter.
  • Save your camera flashes for when you are cornered.
