What frightens The maker calls it a sidescroller horror platform game: a girl asks you to do something, and whether you do it leads to one of five endings. Bright pixel platforming with hearts to collect is undercut by creepy events during play, music that runs from upbeat 8-bit to creepy and melancholic, and what the maker calls a shocking story.

Content: flickering screen effects.

Do It For Me is a short pixel-art horror platformer by Lixian, expanded from his Brackeys Game Jam entry and released on Game Jolt in 2019. You jump across bright levels, fight small creatures and collect hearts, while creepy events and a shocking story build toward one of five endings. It is pay what you want on Game Jolt, for Windows.

About Do It For Me

Do It For Me began as Lixian's entry for the second Brackeys Game Jam. He then reworked it into a full release on Game Jolt in June 2019: the jumping was improved, levels were added and reworked, sound effects were added, and two endings joined the original three. Lixian did the programming, pixel art and music, with extra hand-painted and pixel heart art by Fábio Pinto.

Its tagline asks the question the game is built on: she asks you to do something; will you do it? On the surface it is a cheerful side-scrolling platformer with grassy ledges, a blue sky, red hearts to collect and small dark creatures called Wuffles that you attack. The maker calls it a horror platform game, and he added game events that he describes as creepy things happening while you play, reworked dialogue scenes, and a soundtrack that moves from upbeat 8-bit to creepy and melancholic.

There are five endings, and the maker says each level is built so that different endings need different strategies, so a second or third run plays differently. A screen shows the endings you have unlocked. Later stages bring a flickering, distorted CRT look over the pixel art.

It suits players who like games that look sweet and turn wrong as you go, and who will replay to see every ending. The soundtrack is a separate free download on the same page.
