About Don't Knock Twice
Don't Knock Twice was made by the Welsh studio Wales Interactive and released in September 2017, alongside the horror film of the same name starring Katee Sackhoff. It is on PC through Steam, where one purchase lets you play in VR or on a normal screen and switch between the two, and on Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
The story follows a guilt-ridden mother and her estranged daughter. A local legend tells of a vengeful, demonic witch who wakes with one knock and rises from the dead with two, and to save her daughter the mother has to uncover the frightening truth behind the tale.
You explore a grand manor house in first person, carrying a candle through dim drawing rooms, a chapel and long corridors. Almost every object can be picked up and examined, from letters and phones to an axe, and you search for hidden clues and use items to fight or escape the terror around you. In VR, with tracked hands, that handling of objects is much of the fear.
Critics scored it low, while players on Steam rate it more warmly. It suits VR owners who want a haunted-house story to explore with their own hands.

Tips
- Play in VR if you can; the game is built so you handle almost every object yourself.
- Read texts on the phone and notes you find; they move the story on.
- In Oculus mode, turn on distance grabbing if reaching for objects is awkward.
- Keep your candle with you; the manor's rooms are very dark.
