Forest Escape: Last Train is a co-op horror game for one to four players, in Early Access on Steam. You ride a train through the surreal world of an insane Warden, leave it to mine coal and find parts in dangerous places, and solve his riddles to unlock the track ahead.

About Forest Escape: Last Train

Forest Escape: Last Train is a first-person co-op game from Frag Lab, LLC, published with Two Cakes Studio, that came to Steam Early Access in July 2026. You play prisoners in orange jumpsuits and sack masks who wake not in a cell but at an abandoned station deep in a misty forest. The Warden who held you has a broken mind, and his madness has turned the world into a nightmare. The only way out is to start the old locomotive and ride it forward.

The train is your base. You repair it, fuel it and upgrade it, and each stop sends you out on foot into a strange location: a labyrinth stalked by immortal killer clowns, a castle built of blocks and packed with traps, a haunted amusement park in endless fog, cursed houses on stilts and a lake watched by a giant eye. You mine coal for fuel, collect stones for defence and trade for weapons and supplies, and the longer you stay away from the train the more danger you are in.

Progress is gated by puzzles. The track stays locked until you solve the Warden's riddles, and each one is meant to show a piece of his story. Colossal stone hands can stop the train mid-journey and force a new riddle before it moves again.

The makers describe the tone as balanced between horror and absurd hilarity, and the store tags it as both horror and comedy. It is closer to a co-op night of screams and laughs than to slow dread. It suits groups who liked keeping a shared vehicle alive in KLETKA or scavenging dark places in Lethal Company, and it can be played solo. It is still in Early Access, so content is being added.

How to play Forest Escape: Last Train

  1. Start a game alone or invite up to three friends; the Steam page lists crossplay for multiplayer.
  2. Fuel and repair the locomotive at the station, then ride it to the next location.
  3. Leave the train to mine coal, collect stones and search for the parts the train needs.
  4. Solve the Warden's riddle at each stop to unlock the railway ahead.
  5. Get back to the train before whatever lives in that place finds you, and upgrade it between stops.

Tips

  • Do not stay outside the train longer than you need; the store warns that danger grows the longer you are out.
  • Bring back coal on every outing so the train never runs dry between stops.
  • Split jobs in a group: one player on the puzzle while others gather fuel and stones.
  • Stones are for defence, so keep a few on hand before walking into a new area.
