What frightens You cross a plague-emptied Mediterranean city where infected families were sealed in their homes to die, while a masked stalker obsessed with you keeps hunting you down; the maker promises jumpscares.

Content: jumpscares, blood and human remains, disease and death.

HORROR TALES: The Wine is a first-person horror adventure set on a Mediterranean island emptied by a fever pandemic. You search the abandoned capital for a bottle of red wine said to cure the sick, solving puzzles as a masked stalker hunts you through the streets.

About HORROR TALES: The Wine

HORROR TALES: The Wine is the first game of Carlos Coronado's Horror Tales saga, made by one developer and released on Steam in July 2021, then on PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. You play Martí Vermelló, who steals a boat and sails to the capital of a fictional archipelago. A pandemic of fevers and delirium has killed the islanders, and rumour says the red wine made at the Banydebosc winery can cure it. Your family is sick, and one unopened bottle would be enough.

The city looks like a summer postcard: sea breeze, sun, white walls. Inside it is a quarantine that failed. Families were sealed in their homes without food or water, and their remains are still at the tables. You climb through an interconnected, vertical city, solving environmental riddles and physics puzzles to open the way to the winery.

You are not alone. A stranger in a wide hat and a bone necklace is obsessed with you and keeps finding you, and you cannot fight him: each encounter is a chase, and some puzzles have to be solved while he is close. The maker is open that the game has jumpscares and promises they are not cheap ones.

It suits players who like the look of a modern first-person horror game, a sunny setting turned sour and a pursuer in the style of Resident Evil's Nemesis, in a game that does not ask for combat. More than twenty accessibility settings and a photo mode are included.

How to play HORROR TALES: The Wine

  1. Buy it on Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Xbox store or the Nintendo eShop and start a new game.
  2. Leave the boat at the Banydebosc dock and explore the estate and the city in first person.
  3. Read notes and look at the environment to solve the riddles and physics puzzles that open the way on.
  4. When the stalker appears, break line of sight and run; you cannot fight him.
  5. Keep heading for the winery and the bottle of red wine.

Tips

  • Learn the routes back through each area before you trigger a puzzle; the stalker can arrive while you work.
  • Open the accessibility menu at the start if you want to tune the scares or the controls.
  • The vertical layout loops back on itself: a locked door often opens from the other side later.
