What frightens An isometric survival horror game in a cursed ranch land where twisted creatures that hunt by sound come out at night; you scavenge, craft and hide until morning, luring monsters away with noise because fighting them head-on gets you killed.

Content: gore, violence.

I Hate This Place is an isometric survival horror game by Rock Square Thunder, based on the comic series by Kyle Starks and Artyom Topilin. In a cursed stretch of land around Rutherford Ranch you scavenge, craft and build shelter while creatures that hunt by sound stalk you, worst of all after dark.

About I Hate This Place

I Hate This Place is a survival horror game developed by Rock Square Thunder and published by Feardemic, released on 29 January 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. It is based on the comic book series of the same name by Kyle Starks and Artyom Topilin, and borrows its look: bold colours, comic sound effects drawn into the world and an 80s horror feel.

You are stranded in a cursed land around Rutherford Ranch, with haunted forests, a derelict town and infested bunkers to explore. The game is played from an isometric view above your character. By day you scavenge every corner for food and materials, craft the gear you need, upgrade your campsite and rebuild outposts so you have places to hide.

The nights are the frightening part. When the day-night cycle turns, more creatures come out, stronger and more aggressive, and the land is hard to cross with only a flashlight. Many of them hunt by sound alone, so noise is both a danger and a tool: you can sneak past, throw a sound to draw a creature off your path, or lead it into a trap you set. You do find guns, but the makers warn that brute force will often land you in an early grave, and sometimes the best plan is to find shelter and wait for morning.

The creatures are grotesque, with plenty of eyes and limbs, and there is gore, though the comic style and dark humour keep it from being grim. Critics liked the art and sound and found the survival chores and combat less fun; Nintendo Life noted performance problems on Switch. It suits players who like Darkwood's scavenge-by-day, survive-by-night rhythm and want it in a brighter, comic-book world.

How to play I Hate This Place

  1. Explore the ranch land by day and scavenge every container for food, materials and ammunition.
  2. Craft gear and upgrade your campsite so you have somewhere safe to return to.
  3. Watch the clock: prepare before night falls, when more and stronger creatures come out.
  4. Move quietly; many creatures hunt by sound, so sneak past them or throw a noise to lure them away.
  5. Set traps and lead creatures into them rather than fighting head-on when you can.
  6. Keep your food and health up and find shelter to wait out the worst nights.

Tips

  • Use the daylight hours for long trips, and plan to be back near a shelter before dark.
  • Treat every gunshot as a call to every creature nearby; save guns for when you have no other choice.
  • Rebuilt outposts are worth the materials: they give you places to rest far from camp.
