What frightens Vivian, guilty and afraid, goes into snowy mountains to find a roommate who vanished months ago after writing that she had found an angel in the radio waves; instead she meets a pale girl with a halo, a dead deer on the snow, a tree whose cavity bleeds and dozens of hands squirming in red flesh, in a surreal tale the maker tags psychological horror.

Content: blood, animal death, body horror, mental illness.

Meat Girl is a short surreal horror visual novel made in RPG Maker by ophanimkei. Months after her roommate went missing, a guilty Vivian takes the bus into the snowy mountains to find her, and finds instead a girl who says she is an angel, and a great deal of meat. A free jam version plays in the browser; the complete edition is sold on Steam and itch.io.

About Meat Girl

Meat Girl is by malaika, who publishes as ophanimkei. It began as a free game jam entry on itch.io, where it is still playable in the browser and rated 4.7 of 5 by more than two hundred players. A complete edition followed in September 2026 on Steam and itch.io for Windows, with new artwork and CGs, an artbook and soundtrack, and one ending changed significantly.

Vivian has not seen her roommate for months. It is winter now, she feels guilty and she is afraid, and she finally takes the bus up into the mountains to look for her. In the roommate's empty cabin there is a radio, an unopened pack of cigarettes and a note about an angel who waved from outside the window. In the woods Vivian finds no roommate, only a pale girl with a halo who says they are very close, and the further they go the more the snow gives way to meat.

It plays as a visual novel with pixel movement: you walk a small sprite through pale purple woods, a chapel and the cabin, and most of the story comes in text over large painted portraits and close-up scenes. It is linear, with two endings and one secret to find, and takes forty minutes to an hour.

The horror is quiet and strange rather than loud: a dead deer in the snow, a tree whose hollow bleeds, hands writhing in red flesh, and a girl who is never quite what she seems, set against guilt over someone you left alone. It suits players who like short surreal RPG Maker horror and a queer story told in a few strong images.

  • Try the free jam version first if you are unsure; the complete edition changes one of the endings significantly.
  • Play it in one sitting; it is under an hour.
