Mystery Mansion was made by Ben James in about five days for the MadeWithDefold Jam 2022, built in the Defold engine. It plays in the browser on itch.io or as a small Windows download, and it is name your own price.

The setup is in one line: you are trapped in a haunted mansion, and there is no one else around, or is there. You have no weapons, only your wits. The mansion is drawn in dark, detailed pixel art seen from above, room by room: an east library of bookcases and desks, a master suite with a bed and dressers, and a backstage area of crates and barrels.

Alongside each room are five inventory slots and a heart with a fear meter. You search for items, use them to open the way, and keep away from the monsters that share the house, while your fear climbs.

It is short and simple, a jam game in the spirit of old haunted-house adventures. It suits players who want a quick escape from a haunted mansion in a browser tab.

How to play Mystery Mansion

1. Play in the browser on itch.io, or download the Windows version.
2. Walk through the mansion's rooms from above.
3. Pick up items and use them to open new parts of the house.
4. Keep away from what lives there; watch your fear meter.
5. Find a way out of the mansion.
