About Midnight Mansion

Midnight Mansion is a free survival horror game by FeatureKreep, made in two weeks for GDKO Jam 2025 and updated since. You play Agent Milla Yang, sent to investigate a series of murders at a mansion that serves as an escape room. Its owner disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

It plays like the survival horror games of the mid-1990s seen from above. You walk the dark grounds with a flashlight, then the halls and wings of the house, collecting keys, ammunition boxes and files. The inventory shows your handgun and its rounds, a heart monitor for your health, a map and the documents you have found. Puzzles lock the way forward: a scarecrow riddle, a sliding picture, a calculator code, a safe and a set of cards to place in order.

The notes you find, dated December 1995, tell of things that are everywhere and can change their shape, and creatures crawl out of the dark to attack. The handgun holds only a few rounds, so each shot counts. Arvo Part's Silentium plays over the quiet rooms.

You can choose between three ways to move: point and click, eight directions, or tank controls, and switch any time with Q. A CRT filter gives it an old-television look. It takes about half an hour, and the maker lists the puzzle solutions on the itch.io page for anyone stuck.

How to play Midnight Mansion

1. Click the game to start and pick a movement mode, switching between them with Q.
2. Move with left click or WASD and click on objects and doors to interact.
3. Hold right click or Shift to aim the handgun, then click to shoot.
4. Collect keys, ammo and files, and read the files for clues.
5. Solve the mansion's puzzles to open new rooms and finish the investigation.
