What frightens You are the new keeper of a lighthouse on a small island after the last one vanished, with a rule never to open the door to the basement. The days are routine work, lighting the lamp at sunset, while the island grows wrong around you in slow, quiet steps, with few jump scares and a mind that may not be telling you the truth.
Content: blood, violence, alcohol use, few jumpscares.
A slow, low-poly horror game in which you take over a lighthouse on a small island after its keeper goes missing. You light the lamp each sunset, explore the island and follow a list of rules, one of which is never to go into the basement. It is short, quiet and unsettling rather than loud.
About No one lives under the lighthouse Director's cut
No one lives under the lighthouse is a first-person horror game by Marevo Collective, first released on PC in 2020. The Steam store frames it as a game you find on an old CD in a box of your own: an early-2000s PC game you do not remember buying, with a poorly translated blurb on the back and an Instructions.txt that reads more like a lighthouse keeper's rules than a manual.
In the game you arrive on a small island near the coast of the United States. The previous keeper has disappeared, and until an assistant comes you are alone. Your duties are simple: look after the station, clean the lens and light the lamp punctually at sunset. One rule stands out: the basement under the lighthouse is to stay locked and no one is to visit it.
The horror is slow. The makers call it a slow-burn mystery with few jump scares and several interpretations, and it works through routine, silence, odd details and the feeling that the island is not as empty as you were told. The deliberately rough, old-PC look, with low-poly shapes, dark corridors and a gothic font, adds to the sense that something about the game itself is off.
The Director's cut, earlier called the Isolated Year Update, remade most of the second hour, added new content to the first and rebuilt all three endings, some of which became much harder to reach. Console versions came to PlayStation, Xbox and Switch in May 2023, published by Puppet Combo, with updated features.
It suits players who like short, atmospheric horror built on dread and isolation, such as Iron Lung or the Fears to Fathom episodes, more than those looking for chases or combat.

Tips
- Read every note and the rules carefully; they tell you how the game expects a keeper to behave.
- Play with headphones and the lights off; the sound and silence carry much of the dread.
- There are three endings, and some are harder to reach than others, so a second playthrough is worth it.
- Do not expect a chase or a fight; the game rewards slow looking around.
