What frightens A nightmare of dark hallways you come back to every night: rows of mannequins that always look at you, corridors that rearrange themselves behind your back, and creatures standing in your way the deeper you go (maker's text for the remake); the 2014 original is horror in dark hallways with a flashlight.

Content: blood, gore, loud sounds, flashing lights.

Nox Timore is a free 2014 horror game by Vidas Salavejus, maker of the Timore series. You walk dark, shifting hallways with a light, past mannequins that stand in rows and seem to watch you, deeper into a nightmare; a remade version is free on Steam.

About Nox Timore

Nox Timore is, in its maker's words, horror in dark hallways. Vidas Salavejus released it free on Game Jolt in 2014, the same year as his first Timore, and it has gathered more than a thousand likes there.

You walk in first person through brick corridors, pipe-lined service tunnels and open grey halls, with a small light and not much else. Mannequins stand on poles in rows, half lost in the fog or the dark, and the further you go the less sure you are which of them moved.

In 2022 the maker released NOX TIMORE REMAKE free on Steam, rebuilt from zero with voice acting and new creatures. Its store page describes the idea behind both: a nightmare you come back to every night, hallways that keep changing behind your back, mannequins that always look at you, letters that speak to you and injured monstrosities in your path. The remake's store warns of blood, gore, loud sounds and flashing lights.

The original is still on Game Jolt for Windows. It is short and simple, and suits players who like small free games about dark corridors and things standing still, such as Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion or It Steals.

How to play Nox Timore

  1. Download the free Windows build from Game Jolt, or the free remake from Steam.
  2. Unpack the archive and start the game.
  3. Walk the hallways in first person and use your light to see what is ahead.
  4. Keep moving deeper, past the mannequins and whatever else stands in your way.

Tips

  • Look back now and then; the corridors are not always the same when you turn round.
  • Watch the mannequins at the edge of your light rather than the ones in front of you.
  • Read any letters you find in the remake; they explain the nightmare.
  • Play in a dark room with sound up, but be ready for loud moments.
