What frightens You wake as a grieving man in a dark old hotel and search its long corridors for a way out while paranormal events and jump scares close in; some scares need a quick reaction or you die.

Content: jumpscares, loud sounds, death of a loved one.

Hotel Remorse is a free, short first-person horror game for Windows. You play Norman Chambers, a man undone by the death of his love, who wakes alone in an old hotel and searches its corridors and journal pages for a way out while paranormal events and jump scares close in.

About Hotel Remorse

Hotel Remorse is the first game by Charlie Behan, made in 2015 and released free on Steam in 2018 with Raddy Peid. It is a short, focused piece of first-person horror: no inventory, no combat, just a man, a hotel and what he cannot let go of.

You play Norman Chambers, who has lost his mind after the death of his one true love. He wakes in a dark hotel room with no idea why he is there. Long patterned corridors stretch away under dim wall lamps, doors stand half open, and pages of a journal lie on the carpet, each one filling in a little more of what happened.

The fear is built from atmosphere and timing. The hotel is very dark and quiet, so every sound matters, and the paranormal events come suddenly; some of them kill you unless you react quickly. Players on Steam praise its creepy hotel atmosphere and well placed jump scares, and some note it is a little rough, as the maker himself admits of his first game.

It suits a player who wants a free half hour of classic corridor horror, in the line of the early Game Jolt and Steam free horror games, rather than a long game with puzzles or fights.

How to play Hotel Remorse

  1. Get Hotel Remorse free from its Steam page and install it on Windows.
  2. Explore the hotel from the room where you wake, following the corridors.
  3. Pick up and read the journal pages you find to learn Norman's story.
  4. When something happens, react quickly: some events end the game if you stand still.
  5. Keep going until you find the way out of the hotel.
