About Out of Time: Hotel

Out of Time: Hotel is a short first-person horror game made in one week by a two-person team for Scream Jam 2024: BartBartGames made the animation, models and story, and IndividualKex the programming, sound and the rest of the in-engine work. It ranked 8th overall and 8th for horror in the jam. It is a free, pay-what-you-want download for Windows on itch.io.

Your car breaks down and you end up at a hotel where time seems to matter more than it should. The game hands you small errands, talking to reception, making a bed, going to Room 6, in long corridors lit dark red by wall lamps. People in the hotel talk to you, and you choose your answers; the makers say this changes what is said but not the story.

The dread builds through the quiet, red-lit hotel and its odd people until the end, when a creature with clawed hands and a grinning theatre-mask face comes out of a tall standing clock and you have to run. One player mentions a jumpscare if it catches you.

It takes 10 to 15 minutes, and the makers suggest raising the brightness in the settings if it is too dark. Players on itch.io rate it 4.5 out of 5 from 10 ratings and call the hotel creepy and the mystery hooking. It suits players looking for a quick jam game with a strange place and a chase at the end.
