What frightens You play Steve, a man hired to move boxes for the new owner of a dark house, and as you carry them from room to room you realise that something in the house is not right; the maker's only advice is to be aware of your surroundings.

Peter's House is a short first-person horror game by gzke, made to look like a PS1 game. You play Steve, hired to move boxes for the new owner of a dark old house, and as you carry them through its rooms you start to notice that something is not right. It takes about ten minutes.

About Peter's House

Peter's House is a small horror game by the solo maker gzke, released on itch.io in March 2023 for Windows, Mac and Linux, with a separate Brazilian Portuguese build for Windows. It is made in Unity in the style of a PlayStation game, down to a cover drawn as a PS1 case, and it is name-your-own-price.

You are Steve, a man hired to move boxes for the house's new owner. The job is as plain as it sounds: pick up a box, carry it through dim hallways and rooms with patterned wallpaper, a rug, a crib, closed white doors, and set it down. The game says little more than that, and asks you to be aware of your surroundings while you work.

The horror comes from that quiet. The house is dark and mostly empty, the work keeps you walking its corridors with your hands full, and as you go you start to realise that something in it is not right. It is a slow, short piece built on unease rather than a monster to run from.

At about ten minutes it is something to play in one sitting, and players on itch.io rate it well. It suits anyone who likes low-poly PS1-style horror shorts in an ordinary place, such as a house you have been sent into for a job.

How to play Peter's House

  1. Download Peter's House on itch.io for Windows, Mac or Linux (pay what you want, or nothing), or the Portuguese build for Windows.
  2. Unzip it and start the game with a keyboard and mouse; it is not mapped for controllers.
  3. Look around with the mouse and move with WASD.
  4. Pick up a box with the left mouse button and carry it where it needs to go; drop it with the right mouse button.
  5. Press F to inspect things, and keep an eye on the rooms around you as you work.

Tips

  • Unplug any controller before starting: the maker notes it can leave you stuck inside a box with Esc doing nothing.
  • Play in the dark with headphones; it is short enough for one sitting.
  • Take your time in each room rather than rushing the boxes through.
