Rise of Insanity is a first-person psychological horror game by Red Limb Studio, released in 2018 with optional VR support. As Dr. Stephen Dowell, a 1970s psychologist, you explore his patient's mind and his own to learn what befell his wife and child.

About Rise of Insanity

Rise of Insanity is made by the Polish studio Red Limb Studio and was released on Steam in March 2018 for Windows and Linux, playable on a monitor or with a VR headset. Its makers name The Shining, The Exorcist and Silent Hill among its inspirations.

The story is set in America in the 1970s. Dr. Stephen Dowell, a renowned psychologist, is treating a difficult patient who shows distinct yet contradictory symptoms of different mental disorders, and testing an experimental treatment on him. At the same time something terrible has befallen Dowell's wife and child, and you step into his shoes to find out what, and whether the patient is to blame.

You walk, examine and discover, solving logical puzzles as the game moves between realistic places inspired by early-70s American architecture, an office lined with books, a family bathroom, and the darker inner depths of the mind: cells, a tilted operating table under a spotlight and a creature made of screaming faces. The sound and voice acting carry much of the mood.

It suits players who like psychological horror walks such as Layers of Fear, especially in VR.
