What frightens A student digs into his school's forbidden secrets ('When you know something, you will have to exchange something for it'); the maker warns that some of it is violent, asks you to play alone in the dark at full volume, and says that if you are lucky you will not have to see anything creepy.

Content: violence, blood.

Seven Mysteries is a free top-down horror game by Sang Hendrix about a student who becomes curious about his school's secrets. One by one the forbidden knowledge reveals itself, and each piece has a price. It has 7 chapters and 5 endings, and reaching the last chapter takes a careful eye.

About Seven Mysteries

Seven Mysteries is a free horror game by Sang Hendrix, first released on Game Jolt in 2013 and also on itch.io, with an English translation by Greater Good 45, Blurry Mind and Neku Sakuraba. Its maker later remade it as Seven Mysteries: The Last Page, which is sold separately on Steam.

The story follows groups of special students at a school: the inquisitive, the mysterious and the insane. One of them is very interested in the school's secrets, and one by one the forbidden knowledge unveils itself to his curiosity. The rule the game repeats is that when you know something, you have to exchange something for it.

You play from a top-down view through dim pixel-art classrooms and corridors, with drawn art of bloodied, grinning students for its worst moments. The maker warns that some of the game is violent, asks you to play in a dark room, alone, at full volume, and says screenshots tell you nothing. The structure is part of the scare: there are 7 chapters and 5 endings, and the maker says many players miss chapter 7 and fall to the first ending, the worst, not because it is hard to play but because it is hard to reach. Look around, and remember the numbers.

It suits players who like Japanese-style school horror such as Corpse Party or Misao, and those who enjoy chasing every ending.

How to play Seven Mysteries

  1. Download Seven Mysteries free from itch.io or Game Jolt (Windows) and unpack the archive.
  2. Start the game and follow the student through the school from a top-down view.
  3. Explore every room and look around carefully; the maker says this is how you reach chapter 7.
  4. Note any numbers you come across, as the maker tells you to remember them.
  5. Play again to reach the other endings.
