What frightens You stand over the coffins of sleeping vampires in a dark castle and work through their locks, wires and wards with pry bars and clippers; any noise or wrong move wakes the vampire, who lunges out and kills you in a jumpscare.

Content: jumpscares, violence to vampires, spiders.

Silent Slayer: Vault of the Vampire is a VR horror puzzle game from Schell Games, the makers of I Expect You to Die. You are a vampire slayer working through the coffins of a sleeping vampire clan, disarming each one's traps with tools in your hands, in silence, before driving in the stake.

About Silent Slayer: Vault of the Vampire

Silent Slayer: Vault of the Vampire is made by Schell Games, the studio behind the I Expect You to Die series. It came out on Meta Quest in June 2024 and on Steam for PC VR in October 2024.

A clan of ancient vampires sleeps in a castle, and a ritual for world domination is coming. You are the slayer sent to end them, one coffin at a time, guided by a talking, magical book. Each vampire lies in a coffin protected by locks, nails, wires, wards and stranger defences. You have a pry bar, clippers, a hook made from a finger bone and other tools on a table in front of you, and a stake that only works once you reach the heart.

The horror is in the silence. You lift bars, pull nails and cut wires by hand, slowly, while the vampire sleeps inches away. A clumsy move, too much noise or too much time can wake it, and when it wakes it kills you instantly. Later coffins add unsettling distractions meant to break your focus, and some vampires grow restless if you are slow.

You play seated or standing without walking around, so it is comfortable for players prone to motion sickness. Reviewers found it tense and clever, though a failed attempt sends you back to the start of that coffin. It suits VR players who like careful puzzles and do not mind a jumpscare when they get it wrong.

How to play Silent Slayer: Vault of the Vampire

  1. Sit or stand at the coffin; there is no walking around.
  2. Listen to the book for each vampire's story and hints about its defences.
  3. Pick up tools from the table and use them by hand: pry up bars, pull nails, cut wires.
  4. Move slowly and quietly; noise or a slip wakes the vampire.
  5. When the heart is clear, raise the stake and strike.

Tips

  • Study each coffin's defences before you touch anything.
  • Keep your hands steady; a clumsy move can be enough to wake the vampire.
  • Do not rush, but do not dawdle on later coffins where vampires sense slow slayers.
  • Ignore the distractions as best you can and keep your hands steady.
