What frightens The FNAF night shifts rebuilt in first person and VR, with the animatronics close enough to touch; between nights you repair and service the robots by hand while they may switch on and lunge at you.

Content: jumpscares, loud sounds.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted puts you in the security office and the repair room of Fazbear Entertainment, in VR or on a flat screen. It remakes the nights of the first games and adds new mini-games where you fix, tune and hide from the animatronics, any of which can wake up and jump at you.

About Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted

Help Wanted is a collection of Five Nights at Freddy's levels made by Steel Wool Studios with Scott Cawthon and released in 2019, first for PC VR headsets and PlayStation VR, then on Meta Quest and in a flat, non-VR mode for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. The fiction is a virtual training experience made by Fazbear Entertainment to clean up its image, and the cracks in that training are part of the story.

Much of it rebuilds the classic nights of Five Nights at Freddy's 1 to 4 and Sister Location. You sit in the office, check the cameras, close doors, shine lights and listen at the bedroom doors, and an animatronic that gets past you ends the night with a jumpscare. Around those sit new levels: Parts and Service, where you open up Freddy or Foxy on a workbench to replace parts while they may twitch back to life, crawling through vents, repairing a dark room by flashlight, and Dark Rooms where you track a threat by sound.

In VR the fear is that everything is life-sized and right in front of you. A bear's face fills your view when it lunges, and reaching inside a robot's head to fish out a part feels unwise. Played flat, it is a good way to try the classic nights with modern visuals. It suits FNAF fans and anyone who wants short, sharp jumpscare challenges, and its sequel Help Wanted 2 builds on the same idea.

How to play Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted

  1. Pick a level from the arcade-style menu; each is a short challenge set on one night or job.
  2. In the office levels, check the cameras and listen, then use doors, lights or the flashlight to keep the animatronics out until 6 AM.
  3. In Parts and Service, follow the steps on the board to open up the animatronic and fix or remove the parts asked for, watching for signs it is waking.
  4. Clear levels to unlock harder ones, then hunt for the hidden Faz-Tokens and tapes.

Tips

  • Use headphones: footsteps, breathing and music boxes tell you more than the cameras.
  • In repair levels, work steadily and watch the animatronic's eyes and head between steps.
  • If VR makes you queasy, the flat mode plays the same levels on a monitor.
