About Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is Capcom's 2017 return of its series to slow, close survival horror. It drops the third-person action of the games before it for a first-person view and a single setting: the Baker plantation in the Louisiana bayou, where Ethan Winters goes after a message from his wife Mia, missing for three years.
Inside, Ethan is captured by the Bakers. Jack, Marguerite and their son Lucas look like a backwoods family at the dinner table, but something has changed them: they shrug off wounds, return after every fight and stalk the house looking for him. Much of the first half is spent sneaking, listening for Jack's footsteps and hiding while he searches the next room, with boss fights against each family member along the way.
The game keeps to classic Resident Evil rules underneath. You find keys shaped like animal heads to open new wings, solve simple puzzles, combine herbs and chemical fluid into medicine, juggle a small inventory, stash items in boxes and save on tape recorders in safe rooms. Found videotapes let you play short scenes as other people who came to the house before Ethan.
The horror is close and physical: grime, insects, gore and enemies that get very near the camera. The whole game can be played in VR on PlayStation, which makes it far more intense. It suits players who want a tense, mostly enclosed survival horror game of around ten hours that rewards caution, and it is the start of the story Resident Evil Village continues.
How to play Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
- Explore the Baker house in first person and pick up every item, key and file you find.
- Hide or run from Jack and the other Bakers when they stalk you; fight only when you have to.
- Combine herbs with chemical fluid to make healing items and craft ammunition when you can.
- Use the item box in safe rooms to free inventory space and save on the tape recorders.
- Find the keys and solve the puzzles that open new parts of the estate, and play the videotapes you find.
