What frightens FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft goes alone to an abandoned hotel to look into her mother's death and is drawn back toward the ruins of Raccoon City, wiped out after the 1998 outbreak. She is not a fighter: she scrapes by on scarce supplies through dark, bloodstained rooms while twisted creatures lurk, in contrast to Leon's heavier action.

Content: gore, violence, mature content.

Resident Evil Requiem is Capcom's mainline survival horror game of 2026. You play FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, investigating her mother's death, and the veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy, and you can switch between first and third person at any time.

About Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem is a survival horror game by Capcom, the latest mainline entry in the Resident Evil series. It came out in late February 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. It returns to Raccoon City, the Midwestern city that was home to the Umbrella pharmaceutical company until a zombie outbreak in 1998 ended with a government missile strike on the city, later covered up.

You play two characters whose stories interweave. Grace Ashcroft is an FBI intelligence analyst, withdrawn and focused on her work since her mother's death, who goes alone to an abandoned hotel to investigate that death. Her parts are the slower, frightening ones: investigation, puzzles, and making scarce resources last. Leon S. Kennedy, a survivor of the Raccoon City incident and now an agent fighting bioterrorism, is looking into a string of deaths in the Midwest, and his parts give more room for action.

The game lets you switch freely between first-person and third-person views, so you can play close up and claustrophobic or with the camera behind your character. The series' habits are here: combat, files to read, locked doors and puzzles, and an inventory to manage with item boxes for overflow.

It was very well received by players and critics, with an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam and a Metacritic score of 92 on PC. It suits both long-time fans of the series and newcomers who want a big, modern survival horror game; there is a demo on Switch 2 for those who want to try it first.

How to play Resident Evil Requiem

  1. Choose first-person or third-person view; you can change it at any time in play.
  2. As Grace, explore carefully, search rooms for supplies and files, and solve puzzles to open the way forward.
  3. Manage your inventory and leave what you cannot carry in item boxes.
  4. Fight only when you must and avoid threats where you can; ammunition and healing are limited.
  5. As Leon, use his combat skills to push through heavier fights as the two stories come together.

Tips

  • Read every file; they explain the story and often hold puzzle answers.
  • Try both camera views early and keep the one you are most comfortable with.
  • Do not spend Grace's supplies on enemies you can walk around.
  • Check item boxes before leaving a safe area so you carry what the next stretch needs.
