About Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion

Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion is a free horror game by Lag Studios, first released in 2014 and on Steam since July 2015. It became one of the best-known free horror games through let's plays, and was later rebuilt by Albino Moose Games as the paid Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion: HD Renovation, which has its own page here.

At the door you meet Spooky, a cheerful ghost girl who explains the challenge: make it through all thousand rooms of her mansion. A counter in the corner of the screen tracks your room number. For the first stretch the scares are a parody of jump scares, cute cardboard ghosts that pop out with a noise.

Then the specimens start to appear. Each is a monster with its own behaviour, and from then on every long corridor is tense. You have health and a stamina bar for sprinting, and staying alive mostly means running, learning how each specimen moves and finding the way to the next room. The rooms change style as you go deeper, from stone halls to wooden attics and dark industrial corridors, and notes from earlier visitors hint at what the house is.

The Steam page itself warns of frequent references to harm and violence. It suits players who like monster chases, jump scares and the shift from silly to genuinely frightening; those who want the newer models, VR and extra chapters should look at HD Renovation.

How to play Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion

Download it free from Steam for Windows.
Talk to Spooky at the entrance, then walk through the doors from room to room.
Read notes along the way for hints about the house and its specimens.
When a specimen appears, sprint away and keep moving while watching your stamina.
Learn how each specimen behaves, since each has to be escaped differently.

Tips

Save your stamina for when a specimen is close instead of sprinting everywhere.
The early cardboard scares cannot hurt you; the danger starts with the specimens.
Keep an eye on the room counter to know how far you have come.
