What frightens You are a disposable test subject in a secret facility when the containment fails and the lights go out. SCP-173, a concrete statue, is frozen only while you look at it, and the game forces you to blink; each blink lets it close in and snap your neck. Other escaped entities roam corridors that change with every playthrough.

Content: jumpscares, gore, death scenes.

A free first-person survival horror game set in an SCP Foundation containment site. As a Class D test subject caught in a massive breach, you search for key cards and codes to escape while SCP-173, a statue that moves when you blink, and other anomalies hunt you through a facility that is different every run.

About SCP – Containment Breach

SCP – Containment Breach is a free horror game first released in April 2012 by the Finnish developer Joonas Rikkonen under the name Undertow Games, made in the Blitz3D engine. It is based on the SCP Foundation, a collaborative writing project about a secret organisation that contains dangerous anomalies. In February 2026 the SCP-CB Community Preservation Project brought it to Steam with community fixes, quality-of-life improvements and Workshop support for mods.

You are a Class D, one of the Foundation's disposable test subjects. Shortly after your first assignment, the facility suffers a massive containment breach and you are left alone in the dark with escaped entities. Your aim is to get out alive, and along the way you can read documents to learn what caused the breach, or try to set things right.

The main threat is SCP-173, a concrete statue that kills anything it reaches but cannot move while someone looks at it. The catch is that you must blink regularly, and a blink near it is often fatal. Decontamination gas makes you blink faster, doors need key cards of the right clearance, access codes or timers, and other SCPs wait in the rooms.

The map is procedurally generated, so you never know exactly what is through the next door. The look is plain and dated, but critics praised how much fear it creates with very little; Edge called it scarier than most big-budget horror games of its time. It suits players who like learning a dangerous place through repeated attempts.

How to play SCP – Containment Breach

  1. Install it free from Steam and start a new game; the facility is generated fresh each time.
  2. When the breach starts, keep your eyes on SCP-173 and back away; it only moves when you look away or blink.
  3. Search rooms for key cards, documents and items, and use them to open doors of higher clearance.
  4. Watch the blink and stamina meters, and do not sprint or blink carelessly near danger.
  5. Find your way out of the facility alive.

Tips

  • Never turn your back on SCP-173; walk backwards through doorways while watching it.
  • Read the documents you find; they often hold door codes and warnings about other SCPs.
  • Save often, since the facility is deadly and unpredictable.
  • Keep your inventory for key cards and useful items, and drop what you do not need.
