Cursed Apartment is a short first-person anomaly horror game by Horror Ponds, played alone or online with friends. Trapped in a cursed apartment block, you take the elevator down floor by floor, checking each one for anomalies while monsters roam the halls. Miss one and you are sent back to the top.

About Cursed Apartment

Cursed Apartment comes from the small studio Horror Ponds and is offered on itch.io for Windows and Mac at a price you choose, with a Steam version announced. It takes the spot-the-difference loop of The Exit 8 and adds monsters and online play.

You wake in your apartment to a voice on a recorder: the building is cursed, full of anomalies and things that hunt, and you have to reach floor 1 to escape. Each floor is a grimy corridor of tiled floors, graffiti and lockers. Look closely, decide whether something is wrong, and take the elevator on. If you get it wrong, the elevator glitches and you start again from the highest floor.

It is built to be played with others, in rooms you set up online, with proximity voice chat so you hear the players near you. When you create a room you pick the rules: an Exit 8 mode, where you press up when there is an anomaly and down when there is none, or an Escape mode, where you clear anomalies by capturing them with your camera.

The fear is twofold: the slow, careful looking that every anomaly game asks for, and the monsters in the dark that punish you for taking too long. A run takes 30 minutes to an hour, so it suits a group of friends who want a quick scare together, or a solo player who liked The Exit 8 and wants something with more threat in it.

How to play Cursed Apartment

Download Cursed Apartment from itch.io for Windows or Mac, paying what you want.
Play alone, or create an online room and choose the Exit 8 or Escape mode for your group.
On each floor, walk the corridor and look for anything that has changed or does not belong.
In Exit 8 mode, press up when you see an anomaly and down when there is none; in Escape mode, capture anomalies with your camera.
Keep away from the monsters and keep going down until you reach floor 1.

Tips

Learn the first floor well: every anomaly is a change from how it normally looks.
Talk to your group over voice chat and split up the checking, but stay close enough to hear each other.
Do not linger in the dark corridors once you have made your call.
