Dread Fields is a short first-person folk horror game set on an isolated farm in an Eastern European village. You move from the city for a quiet life of farm work, until the former owner's terrible secrets start to rise from beneath the ground. It takes about an hour and a half, and your choices decide the ending.

About Dread Fields

Dread Fields is a farming horror game from Podoba Interactive, released in May 2026 for Windows, Mac and Linux. Tired of the city, your character sells his apartment and buys a small house and farm from a strange old man, in a place the locals call Dread Fields. The setting is a village somewhere in Ukraine, drawn in a style that looks back to mid-2000s games.

Most of what you do is ordinary rural work. You milk the cow, mow the grass, carry water from the well, feed the cat and the chickens, collect eggs, pick mushrooms in the forest, chop wood, fish and tend the garden. The sunny days among the sunflower fields look almost cosy, and that is the point: the game is a slow burn, and the calm routine is where the dread builds.

The horror comes in through the nights and the farm's past. Its store art shows a pale woman with burning eyes in the sunflowers, a masked figure with raised arms by torchlight and a dead tree in thick fog. The maker warns that the game can cause strong anxiety and fear and that it shows the living dead, the murder of people and dead animals. Players praise its atmosphere and its scares, and several mention jump scares tied to picking things up.

An average playthrough takes about 1.5 hours, and the ending depends on your choices, so it suits a single evening and a second run. It fits players who like folk horror and the mix of cosy farming and creeping fear.

How to play Dread Fields

  1. Buy and install Dread Fields from its Steam page (Windows, Mac or Linux).

  5. Pay attention when night falls and strange things start to appear.
  6. Make your choices with care; they decide which ending you reach.

Tips

  • Look after the cat; players who missed that it could be saved went back for a second run.
  • Expect scares when you pick up or touch objects, not only in the dark.
  • Take the slow days seriously; the routine is part of how the story is told.
  • Since the ending depends on your choices, try a different path on a second playthrough.
