On PC: one of the PC horror games.

What frightens You play a small candle crossing the ruins of a dark cathedral littered with plague victims, where Mara, a nun who succumbed to despair, and the Legiones, giant insects that feast on the dead, hunt anything that shines; you snuff your own flame to hide from them.

Content: dead bodies.

Flicker of Hope is a free stealth horror game where you play Jean Wick, a small candle carrying a dead monk's mission through a plague-ridden cathedral. You use your douter and wax tricks to avoid Mara, a despairing nun, and the giant insects that eat the dead.

About Flicker of Hope

Flicker of Hope is a free stealth game by Studio Whip, a group of students at the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy who made it over eight months and released it on Steam in August 2020. Its store calls it a suspense thriller.

You are Jean Wick, a little candle, carrying on a dead monk's mission to fill a ruined cathedral with light. The halls are full of victims of a mysterious plague, and you are not the only soul left. Mara, a nun who fell into despair while trying to heal the tide of plague victims, walks the nave, and the Legiones, giant insects, feed on the dead.

Your light is both what you carry and what gives you away. You use a douter to put yourself out and a mix of waxy tricks to avoid being seen, then move on through the dark. The screenshots show a tiny flame against huge stone walls, bodies on the floor and a tall, thin figure bent over an altar.

The tiny hero against a huge, dark place puts it near Little Nightmares, and it suits players who want a free, compact stealth game with a gothic setting.

How to play Flicker of Hope

  1. Guide Jean Wick through the cathedral toward the next place that needs light.
  2. Use the douter to snuff your flame when Mara or the insects come near.
  3. Use your wax tricks to slip past or distract what hunts you.
  4. Light the cathedral as you go to carry on the monk's mission.
