What frightens You descend through the floors of a monster-filled mansion whose halls rearrange every time you go in, fighting grotesque creatures, man-eating plants and bosses turn by turn, stepping on hidden traps that can spring a room full of monsters on you, and rationing ammunition and inventory space while low-poly gore spatters the checkered floors.

Content: low-poly violence and gore (developer's note).

House of Necrosis is a turn-based horror RPG by Warkus with retro 32-bit 3D graphics. You explore a tank-controlled hub over pre-rendered backgrounds, then descend through a mansion whose floors change on every visit, fighting monsters turn by turn, levelling up and upgrading your weapons.

About House of Necrosis

House of Necrosis is a horror RPG by the solo developer Warkus, released on Steam in October 2025 for Windows and Linux. It is built as a tribute to the early 3D survival horror games of the 1990s: the characters are low-poly, the hub world uses tank controls and pre-rendered backgrounds, and the opening rooms, a red-carpeted hall with a grand staircase and a dim library, will feel familiar to anyone who played those games.

The heart of the game is a turn-based dungeon crawl in the style of mystery dungeon games. Each time you enter, the mansion's halls are laid out anew. You move on a grid, and every step you take is a turn for the monsters too. You pick up weapons, ammunition and healing items, manage a limited inventory and an ammo count, level up your character and upgrade your guns as you go deeper.

The horror is in the creatures and the place: man-eating plants, gory beasts and bosses that grow stronger as fights drag on, traps hidden in the floor that can turn a quiet room into a monster house, and the pressure of a run that can end at any moment. The developers' content note warns of low-poly, low-res violence and gore.

It plays more like a roguelike than a game of jump scares, and players describe it as Resident Evil turned into a mystery dungeon game. It suits fans of 90s survival horror who also enjoy turn-based roguelikes such as Darkest Dungeon.

How to play House of Necrosis

  1. Explore the hub mansion with tank controls and gather what you can before going down.
  2. Enter the changing halls of the mansion; each visit lays the floors out differently.
  3. Move on the grid one step at a time, knowing every step is a turn for the monsters.
  4. Fight monsters turn by turn with your weapons and ammunition, and use items to heal.
  5. Level up, upgrade your weapons and push deeper, floor by floor.

Tips

  • Keep an eye on your ammo count; screenshots show runs where it falls to zero.
  • Leave room in your inventory, since a full one means passing up weapons like a rifle.
  • Watch for hidden traps; one can fill a room with monsters.
  • Bosses can buff their allies, so deal with the ones casting enrage before they double their attacks.
