What frightens On Halloween night Jake gets ready for a party in a house where something has gone wrong. Clicking through the rooms turns up bits of an untold story, and the game borrows the beats of old slasher films, with pixel blood, implied deaths and violence.

Content: pixel blood, implied death, violence.

A free, short pixel-art horror game that plays with old slasher films. You follow Jake around his house on Halloween as he gets ready for a party, examine everything, solve simple puzzles and piece together what is really happening, with three endings to find.

About Jake's Halloween Night

Jake's Halloween Night is a short horror game by DreamBones, made with RPG Maker. It began as a personal challenge in October 2021 and came back remastered with new art, better graphics and more secrets; the remaster came out on Steam in November 2023, and it plays free in the browser on itch.io.

It is October 31, and you follow Jake as he gets ready for a killer Halloween party. The house is decorated in autumn colours and pumpkins, and you walk it from above in pixel art, with drawn cutscenes and close-ups of objects such as an old bathroom key whose lock sticks.

The game is story-driven and tells much of its story through the rooms themselves. If you like clicking on everything, reading notes and putting together events nobody explains to you, that is the core of it. Puzzles are simple. It takes its cues from old slasher movies and pokes some fun at them as well, with a few classic horror references.

The maker warns of pixel blood and implications of death and violence. It lasts 15 to 25 minutes and has three endings, so it suits a quick Halloween play in the browser. A sequel, Catrina's Halloween Nightmare, is also out.

  2. Press Enter to examine objects and read what you find.
  3. Collect keys and items and use them to open new rooms.
  4. Piece together what is happening from the clues, and replay to find all three endings.
