On PC: one of the PC horror games.

What frightens As a priest trained by the medieval church, you go from village to village casting demons out of the possessed, who taunt you, weep blood and twist their bodies while you race through the rites; souls you fail to save are lost for good.

Content: bodily harm done by demons, blood, disturbing religious imagery.

Ritus Exorcismus is a medieval pixel-art horror game in which you play a priest sent out by the church to perform exorcisms. In each village you identify the signs of possession in your Exorcism Book and counter them with holy relics through tense minigames, and the souls you lose decide your ending.

About Ritus Exorcismus

Ritus Exorcismus is an indie horror game by Dernhelm Games, released on Steam for Windows and Linux in March 2026 after a free demo with its first two chapters. It is in English and Brazilian Portuguese.

Demonic possessions are increasing all over the land. You are a priest being trained by the church to perform exorcisms, and your abbey is the only holy refuge for the villages around it. Equipped with your Exorcism Book and a case of holy relics, you are sent out chapter by chapter to a new village, each with its own scenario and its own possessed villagers. Animals and the land itself are being corrupted too.

The heart of the game is the rite. The book describes every demon and the signs it shows in its host, from a mouth stretched to unnatural lengths to other torments. When a sign appears, you find the matching page and choose the right relic: the crucifix, blessed candles, holy water, anointing oil, incense or salt. Each relic has its own minigame you must finish in time to push the demon back, while the possessed taunt you and your faith. Villages you free give offerings that upgrade your relics, and rare events reward you with relics of saints and martyrs.

Not every exorcism succeeds. Some souls will be lost, and the number of lost souls along with your choices decides which of the endings you reach. It suits players who like religious and possession horror and tense, hands-on rituals more than chases.

How to play Ritus Exorcismus

  1. Walk through the abbey in the top-down view, talk to Mother Superior Ruth and pick up your relics case.
  2. Travel to the village of the chapter and find the possessed.
  3. Start the exorcism and watch for the demonic sign the possessed shows.
  4. Open your Exorcism Book, find the page for that sign and choose the relic it names.
  5. Complete that relic's minigame in time; repeat until the demon is forced into the final ritual.
  6. Spend the villagers' offerings on relic upgrades before the next chapter.

Tips

  • Learn the book: the faster you match a sign to its page, the more time you have for the minigame.
  • Upgrade the relics you struggle with most first.
  • Take on the unique events in each village; they can give you relics of saints that help in hard rites.
  • Try the free demo for the first two chapters if you are unsure.
