What frightens As a young priest with only a crucifix, you walk dark woods, a farmhouse and abandoned churches where possessed people and demons hunt you. The pixel art is crude and dark, the demons speak through grating old speech synthesizers, and sudden rotoscoped scenes of the possessed break in with startling, gory detail.

Content: gore, violence, demonic possession, religious themes.

A pixel horror trilogy from Airdorf Games set in the 1980s Satanic Panic. As a young priest you explore dark forests, a haunted house and a cult's churches, holding out your crucifix to drive back possessed people and demons. All three chapters are in one game.

About FAITH: The Unholy Trinity

FAITH: The Unholy Trinity collects all three chapters of Airdorf Games' FAITH series, published by New Blood Interactive. It came out on PC in October 2022 and later on Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PlayStation.

The story begins on September 21, 1986, when two priests went to the Martin family home in rural Connecticut to investigate a possession, and only two people came out alive. A year later the young priest who survived goes back. In the chapters that follow he faces worse things and, helped by a stranger, travels the countryside to stop a Satanic cult from summoning a powerful demon.

You play from above in sparse 8-bit pixel art, walking through black forests, cornfields and empty rooms. Your crucifix is your main tool: hold it out to perform exorcisms, push back possessed cultists and cleanse haunted objects. Notes, items and secrets lead to multiple and secret endings.

The horror works through contrast. Most of the time the screen is dark, simple and quiet, then a rotoscoped animation of a possessed figure or a demon fills it, and voices crackle out of an old speech synthesizer. The makers state that blood and gore appear throughout.

It suits players who like retro horror, the 1980s fear of Satanic cults, and tense chapters that reward exploring for secrets.

Tips

  • Read every note: they explain the story and point to secrets.
  • Watch the edges of the dark screen; enemies often come from outside your light.
  • Keep the crucifix ready when you enter a new area.
  • Play in a dark room with sound on; the speech-synthesizer voices carry much of the dread.
