About SCP: Secret Laboratory

SCP: Secret Laboratory is made by Northwood Studios and has been free to play on Steam since December 2017. It is built on the SCP Foundation, a long-running collaborative fiction about a secret organisation that holds strange objects and creatures, and it takes its premise from the earlier SCP - Containment Breach.

Each round starts at Site-02 at the moment its containment fails. Players are handed roles. Class-D prisoners start with nothing and try to escape; scientists try to reach the surface with help from the facility guards; Mobile Task Force soldiers arrive to secure the site; the Chaos Insurgency raids it and frees the prisoners. A few players become SCPs, the escaped creatures, and their aim is to kill everyone.

The site is a maze of zones, from the Light Containment Zone where prisoners and scientists start, through the Heavy Containment Zone where the creatures were held, to the Entrance Zone and the surface where escape lies. Keycards open doors, Tesla gates guard corridors and a warhead can destroy the underground site. The layout is generated anew each round, so no two rounds play out the same.

The horror is strongest early in a round, when you are an unarmed prisoner in a dark corridor and hear something coming. Each creature hunts in its own way, and the voice chat between nearby players turns many rounds into panic and laughter. Later, armed teams arrive and it becomes more of a shooter. It suits groups who like multiplayer horror with a lot of chaos, and anyone who knows the SCP stories.

How to play SCP: Secret Laboratory

1. Install it free from Steam and join a server from the server list.
2. See which role you are given at the start of the round and what that side has to do.
3. As a prisoner or scientist, find keycards and items and work your way up through the zones to the surface exit.
4. As a guard or soldier, protect the scientists, stop the prisoners and fight the creatures; as an SCP, hunt down the humans.
5. Talk to nearby players over voice chat to team up, bargain or warn them.

Tips

• Learn the zone layouts and which keycards open which doors; most early deaths come from getting lost.
• As a prisoner, team up with others and pick up anything useful before heading for the exit.
• Learn how each SCP hunts, since each one needs a different answer.
• Listen: creatures and other players can often be heard before they are seen.
