The Devourer: Hunted Souls is made by ZTEK Studio in Unreal Engine 5 and was released on Steam in October 2023. It can be played alone but is built for up to five players online.
You play one of five investigators, each with their own skills and a special ability, sent into a forest with a curse on it. With a set of paranormal investigation gadgets you look for entities and cursed objects, piece together what happened to the people who lived there, and try to lift the curse. The forest holds more than trees: a cabin, offices and a dark manor are among its locations.
The horror is in the hunt. Several creatures roam, with chases and jumpscares, and an adjustable bodycam filter makes it look like found footage. Puzzles adapt to how many players are left. Death is not the end: a dead player's soul goes to another realm, where they try to make it out before the rest of the team dies too.
It suits groups who like ghost-hunting games such as Phasmophobia but want a story and a place to explore.
