THE WELL IS NOT EMPTY came out on Steam in September 2026, made and published by tweakEra. It opens with a simple job: the water is almost gone, something was heard moving in the well last night, and it is up to you to tie a rope around yourself and climb down.

Below are tunnels and the ruins of a prison someone was building underground, with nobody left. You dig through rubble with a rusty spoon, swat the rats that infest the tunnels, read notes that reveal what happened, and find remnants of a ritual never meant to be seen. Hand-crank generators bring light into dark rooms for a short time, and the creatures fear the light, so you power them and run before the lights go out. Some sections have you balancing across chasms, and things behind a prison gate will grab you if you get close, leaving a quick-time event to break free.

The monsters are the draw: low-poly, long-limbed and grinning, with faces that look hand-drawn and wrong, shown in grainy PSX-style rooms full of blood. Players describe tense chases, loud and dense sound design and a mix of real fright with a strange, sometimes goofy whimsy.

It suits players who liked going underground in Penumbra or Lost in Vivo and want a short, intense indie horror with a look of its own.

Climb down into the dry well and follow the tunnels.

Crank a generator to light the creatures' rooms, then run through before the light fails.

Lean left and right to keep your balance on beams across chasms.

Tips

Plan your route before cranking a generator; the light only lasts so long.
Give the gates a wide berth; whatever is behind them reaches out.
