What frightens You are a toddler lost in a nightmare of dim playrooms and corridors, hunting for your five favourite toys while monsters patrol the dark. They hear your footsteps, your breathing and every squeaky toy you step on, and the more scared you get, the closer you come to crying out loud and giving yourself away.

Content: blood, a child in danger, sudden monster encounters.

Baby Blues Nightmares is a first-person survival horror stealth game by the one-person Steelkrill Studio. You play a toddler searching dark playrooms for five lost toys while monsters listen for every sound, and if you get too scared you start to cry and give away where you are. A free prologue is on itch.io; the full game is sold on Steam and itch.io for Windows.

About Baby Blues Nightmares

Baby Blues Nightmares is a horror game made by one developer at Steelkrill Studio, the maker of The Backrooms 1998. It started as a free prologue on itch.io, where players rated it 4.9 of 5 from nearly 600 ratings, and the full game came out on Steam in September 2024.

You play a toddler caught in nightmares where it is hard to tell what is real. The world is a facility of oversized rooms: nurseries with cribs and teddy bears, playrooms with ball pits and foam mats, long dark corridors. Your goal is to find your five beloved toys and learn what this place is, level by level.

Being small cuts both ways. You can crawl through hidden passages and hide under tables and in lockers, but you cannot fight. The monsters patrol and listen: footsteps, breathing, a squeaky toy underfoot or a crate pushed too hard can bring them. You can throw objects to pull them away. Fear is a meter of its own: the more scared you are, the more likely you are to cry, and crying tells them where you are. Chocolate, food and candy keep the toddler calm.

Between the frights there is a softer side. You fix, paint and customise a tricycle to ride around the world and carry toys in its cart, draw on walls with crayons you find, and save by taking a nap in save zones.

It suits players who liked hiding from toys in Tattletail or being small and hunted in Little Nightmares, and who want a sound-based stealth game seen from very low down.

How to play Baby Blues Nightmares

  1. Download the free prologue on itch.io to try it, or buy the full game on Steam or itch.io for Windows.
  2. Explore each area in first person and look for your lost toys and the clues around them.
  3. Move slowly and watch the floor: squeaky toys, crates and fallen objects make noise the monsters can hear.
  4. When something comes, hide under a table, in a locker or another small space, or throw an object to send it elsewhere.
  5. Eat chocolate, candy and food to keep your fear down so you do not start crying.
  6. Nap in a save zone to save your progress before the next stretch.

Tips

  • Keep a sweet or two in reserve for the tense stretches, since crying gives you away.
  • Use crayons to mark rooms you have already searched.
  • Treat every toy on the floor as a possible noise and step around it.
