What frightens A third-person survival horror game with dithered PS1-style graphics and fixed camera angles: Hideo returns to Yamanashi Academy, closed in 1993 after crimes by four teachers whose spirits are said to remain inside, and must find four keys to leave, among blood-soaked floors and a mannequin whose lower body is human.

Content: blood, disturbing imagery.

Banned Memories: Yamanashi is a free PS1-style survival horror game seen through fixed camera angles. Hideo is brought back to Yamanashi Academy, closed in 1993 after crimes committed by four of its teachers, and has to find four keys to leave a school their spirits are said to haunt.

About Banned Memories: Yamanashi

Banned Memories: Yamanashi is a third-person survival horror game by Noah Pauw, released on Game Jolt in 2015 as pay what you want, with a gamepad edition added in 2016. It is built to take you back to the late 1990s, with dithered graphics, PS1-style music and a mix of static and moving camera angles.

Yamanashi Academy was a beloved school that became notorious for severe crimes committed there over three years. It closed officially in 1993, and the four teachers who committed the crimes all died within a month of the closure. Some believe their spirits are still inside. Hideo, who should have been among them but no longer knows why, is brought back after a long time to solve the mystery of the place, and five years of torture would make any man crazy.

To leave the school, Hideo has to find four keys, each with its own description and story. You walk him through dark, blood-soaked rooms and lantern-lit courtyards from fixed angles that hide what is around the corner, reading what he finds: a child's wheelchair where it should not be, a mannequin whose lower body is human. The maker promises that it will not go swimmingly.

It suits players who like Silent Hill-era fixed-camera horror and want a free take on it set in a Japanese school.
