Burger & Frights is a short first-person horror game by Donitz in a retro low-poly style. It is late, you were craving burgers, and now you have to cycle home along a forest road where cars, ghosts and worse wait in the dark.

About Burger & Frights

Burger & Frights is a free browser horror game by Donitz. It opens at a roadside burger stand late at night: you have your bag of food in the bike basket and a long ride home ahead of you through the forest. The maker names Rides with Strangers and a certain John Carpenter horror film as its inspirations.

You see the ride from the saddle. You pedal, steer along the lane and turn your head with the mouse to look at the road behind you, the trees on either side and the fields beyond. A ring of the bell is the only noise you can make. The road is narrow and dark, lit only by your bike lamp and the occasional set of headlights.

The frights come along the road. A car slows down beside you, shapes stand where they should not be, and the route itself starts to loop and change. The game uses darkness, sound and things glimpsed out of the corner of your eye, then punishes mistakes with sudden, bloody game-over screens.

Its look is deliberately old: chunky low-poly models, a low resolution and grainy dithering, which makes the dark harder to read. It is a short single sitting and works best in fullscreen, as the maker recommends.

How to play Burger & Frights

Click the game to start and let it capture the mouse; play in fullscreen if you can.
Hold W or the Up arrow to pedal and steer with A and D or the arrow keys.
Move the mouse to look around, behind you and to the sides of the road.
Keep riding toward home and react to what appears on the road; a crash or a wrong move sends you back.

Look behind you now and then; not everything comes from ahead.
Stay on your side of the road when headlights appear.
Use headphones, since many threats are heard before they are seen.
