What frightens Ellen relives the same workday with her coworker Olivia, and the game opens on her thought that there is no need to pretend and work anymore: let's have some more fun and kill her. Each of the 7 dead ends is a murder found through objects in the black-and-white office, with blood and a corpse, as the maker warns.

Content: murder, blood, mentions of suicide.

Good Job! is a free black-and-white RPG Maker horror game about Ellen, an office worker stuck in the same day with her cheerful coworker Olivia. You explore the office and use what you find, and most of what you find leads to killing her.

About Good Job!

Good Job! is a short RPG Maker game by Kathinka, drawn entirely in black and white. Ellen wakes, starts the day and goes to work in a small office she shares with Olivia, a bright, chatty coworker who asks what she did yesterday. The game's opening line sets its tone: there's no real need to pretend and work anymore, so let's have some more fun and kill her.

You walk Ellen around her room and the office, pick up ordinary things like scissors, a package or an umbrella, and use them. Most uses end in one of seven dead ends, each a death written to be uncomfortable, shown in hand-drawn illustrations of Olivia's shock. The day then begins again, and the true end lies past them.

The horror is quiet and personal rather than monstrous: the repetition of an ordinary day, a protagonist who is calm about violence, and what the loop is hiding. The maker warns of murder, with blood and a corpse, and mentions of suicide. The current version adds voice acting for Ellen, Olivia and a scientist, an epilogue and a bonus room.

It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to see everything, plays in the browser (on phones too) and has downloads for Windows and macOS. It suits players who like story-led RPG Maker horror such as Ib or Mad Father, in a much smaller, office-sized space.

How to play Good Job!

  1. Open the itch.io page and press Run game, or download it for Windows or macOS.
  2. Choose Start The Day and walk Ellen with the arrow keys.
  3. Interact with objects in her room and the office with Enter, and pick up what you can.
  4. Use what you carry on things and people to reach each dead end, then look for the true end.

Tips

  • Check every shelf, closet and desk: the endings come from small objects.
  • The maker's hints in the comments say some endings need an item used twice or in a set order.
  • Each dead end returns you to the start of the day, so experiment freely.
