Gorgon's Garden is a free short horror game by Feverdream Johnny and squp, played on a virtual desktop from 2008. A forum hacker has cracked a defunct MMO that was shut behind a paywall, and you download the crack and log in to explore a game world that has no other players in it, until the trouble starts.

About Gorgon's Garden

Gorgon's Garden was made in one week by Feverdream Johnny and squp and released free on itch.io for Windows in October 2025. Its makers describe it as a love letter to old forum culture and to the more earnest, amateur tone of older creepypastas.

It is a summer day in 2008 and you are lurking on Hypogeum.net, a niche forum built around an MMO called Gorgon's Garden. The game became unplayable when it was put behind a paywall for a digital currency that no longer exists, but the forum's hacker has finally cracked it. You run the crack, and that is where things go wrong.

Most of it is played on an old computer screen with a reflection of your room in the glass. You can toy with the desktop: change your cursor, download odd images and set them as your wallpaper, and read the forum threads of its cast of regulars. Then you go into the MMO itself, a low-resolution 3D world with levels, health and magic points, where you walk through gardens, dungeons and graveyards and meet a few talking characters, but no other players.

The makers call it a bit of horror and a bit of humor, and the opening is colourful and odd. They also call it a nightmare and warn of grotesque body horror. It suits players who remember old forums and like their horror found inside a game that should not still be running, in one sitting of under an hour.

How to play Gorgon's Garden

Download Gorgon's Garden free from its itch.io page and unzip it on a Windows PC.
Start the game and look around the virtual desktop: open the forum, read the threads and try the programs.
Download the crack from the forum and run Gorgon's Garden.exe to log in to the MMO.
Explore the game world with the keyboard and mouse, talk to the characters you meet and follow where it leads.
Go back to the desktop and the forum when you are stuck; the threads hold more than they first seem to.

Tips

Read the forum posts closely; much of the story is in them.
Play it in one sitting at night with sound on.
If you are put off by grotesque body horror, the makers suggest you pass on it.
If it crashes on start, players on its itch.io page report that adding -force-d3d11 to the launch options fixed it.
