What frightens A moustached neighbour hides something in his basement, and every time you sneak into his house he hunts you down, setting bear traps and cameras on the routes you used before. Being chased through a strange, oversized house by someone who learns your habits keeps the tension high.

Content: jumpscares, chases.

Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about breaking into the house across the street to learn what your neighbour hides in his basement. He chases you, and his AI learns from what you do, putting traps and cameras on the paths you favour.

About Hello Neighbor

Hello Neighbor was made by Dynamic Pixels and published by tinyBuild, released on PC in December 2017 and later on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, iOS and Android. It has since grown into a series with a sequel and spin-offs such as Secret Neighbor.

You live across the street from a man with something to hide. Getting into his house means finding keys, stacking boxes, breaking windows and solving physical puzzles in a house that grows stranger and bigger as the game goes on. He patrols the rooms, and if he sees you he gives chase.

The fear is being hunted by someone who adapts. Climb through the same window too often and he will put a bear trap under it; take the front door and cameras appear. Hiding in a wardrobe while you hear him walk past is the core of it. It is more tense than gory, with cartoon looks and sudden catches.

It suits players who like stealth puzzles and being chased more than gore, and fans of Granny-style hide-and-seek horror.

How to play Hello Neighbor

  1. Leave your house and look over the neighbour's house from the street.
  2. Find a way in: a window, a door, or something to climb.
  3. Search rooms for keys and items that open the way to the basement.
  4. Watch where the neighbour is; hide in a wardrobe or behind furniture when he comes.
  5. If he catches you, start again and try a different route, since he learns your favourites.
  6. Solve each act's puzzles to reach the basement and its secret.

  • Throw objects to distract him and lead him away from where you want to go.

  • Use wardrobes to hide when he is close.
