Sophie's Curse is a point-and-click horror game about surviving one night. As a nurse looking after an old man in a house with no electricity, you keep four hand-crank generators running for light while something in the darkness drains their power. Let one run out and it comes for you.

About Sophie's Curse

Sophie's Curse is a horror game by TrerPlay, published by Edco Games on Steam in March 2016. You are a nurse with a small job: look after an old man for just one night. His family has only just bought the house, and they got it cheap for a reason: the wiring is too old to use, so there is no electricity.

The new owner has spent months building hand-crank generators and has set four of them around the house. They are all you have for light through the night. They were stable while he was building them, but something in the house is making them unstable now, and it is hiding in the darkness. The rule the store gives is simple: no matter what, do not let them run out of power.

You play in first person by pointing and clicking, moving between the rooms to crank each generator before its bulb dies. The house is dim and brown, lit by single bulbs on the generator stands, and the screenshots show what waits outside their light: a pale girl with a ruined, bloodied face, crawling under a table or rushing at you from the dark.

Players tag it as difficult and full of jump scares. It suits those who like the tension of Five Nights at Freddy's, where the whole night is a juggling act of power and attention against something that moves when you are not looking.

How to play Sophie's Curse

  1. Buy and install the game from Steam (Windows).
  2. Start the night as the nurse in the house with the old man.
  3. Click to move between the rooms where the four generators stand.
  4. Crank each generator to keep its light on before its power runs out.
  5. Keep all four lit until morning; if one goes dark, what hides in the house comes out.

Tips

  • Learn the route between the four generators early and keep moving between them.
  • Watch each generator's light: crank the weakest one first.
  • Do not stay too long in one room; the others are losing power while you are there.
  • Expect jump scares when a light fails.
