About The Man From The Window

The Man From The Window is a small horror game made in Unity by Zed_Technician and released on itch.io in May 2022 for Windows. It is name-your-own-price, and its maker has since made a sequel, The Man from the Window 2.

You play Mama Rabbit, coming home from work late one night to a dim, brown-carpeted house. Junior Rabbit, up long past his bedtime, runs to you clutching a book that has plainly frightened him. Its pages describe the Man From The Window, an odd fellow with big beady eyes and a sunken nose who, the book says, just wants to say hello.

You walk the house in first person and talk with Junior through dialogue boxes, trying to convince him that it is only a story. Then a tap-tap-tapping begins on the window. The game rests on that turn: a bedtime scene between a parent and a scared child, and a children's book character who may not stay in the book.

The rabbit family looks soft, but the game is played straight as horror, and the man on its cover, a pale grinning face with round staring eyes, is drawn to unsettle. At a few minutes it suits anyone wanting a quick, well-rated scare in one sitting, and players who finish it have the sequel to go on to.

How to play The Man From The Window

1. Download The Man From The Window on itch.io for Windows (pay what you want, or nothing).
2. Unzip it and start the game.
3. As Mama Rabbit, walk through the house in first person and talk with Junior Rabbit about his book.
4. Read the dialogue as it comes, and listen for what is at the window.

Tips

• Play at night with headphones; it is short and relies on sound.
• Look closely at the pages of Junior's book: they tell you who the man is.
