What frightens Hand-sculpted clay monsters with drooling mouths and staring eyes stalk a world of endless night, hungry for the little flame your lantern companion carries; you hide from them, slip past and use the flame to distract them, often up close in first person or in VR.

Content: jumpscares, monsters.

The Midnight Walk is a first-person dark fantasy adventure built from real clay and animated in stop motion. As the Burnt One you befriend Potboy, a lantern creature, and carry his flame through five tales of fire and darkness while monsters try to snuff it out.

About The Midnight Walk

The Midnight Walk comes from MoonHood, a team formed by makers of Fe and Lost in Random, and was published by Fast Travel Games in May 2025. Everything in it was first sculpted by hand in clay, scanned in 3D and animated in a stop-motion style, and it can be played on a flat screen or in VR on PC and PlayStation 5.

You play the Burnt One, who wakes in a world of perpetual night and meets Potboy, a small walking pot with a flame on his head. Together you follow the Midnight Walk through five tales, lighting candles and lamps, solving small puzzles and meeting odd characters along the way.

The horror is in the creatures of The Dark Itself, who want Potboy's fire. They are grotesque, close and often bigger than you, and you cannot simply fight them: you hide, watch, and send Potboy's flame to lure them away. The handmade look makes them stranger rather than softer.

It suits players who like dark fairy tales such as Little Nightmares, and anyone wanting a frightening game that is more creepy wonder than gore.

How to play The Midnight Walk

  1. Wake in the dark and follow the path until you meet Potboy, the lantern creature.
  2. Carry Potboy and use his flame to light candles, lamps and the way ahead.
  3. Solve the small puzzles each tale sets before the path opens.
  4. When monsters come for the flame, hide and keep out of their sight.
  5. Send Potboy or his flame to distract them, then slip past.
  6. Follow the Midnight Walk through all five tales.

Tips

  • Watch and listen to a monster before you move; most have a pattern.
  • Keep Potboy close; his flame is both your light and what they want.
  • Look around in quiet moments, the clay world hides details and secrets.
  • In VR, take breaks if the dark scenes feel intense.
