The Park is a short first-person psychological horror game by Funcom. You play Lorraine, a mother who goes back into Atlantic Island Park at sunset to find her son Callum, riding its run-down attractions as the dark comes down and her own mind starts to fray.

About The Park

The Park is a first-person psychological horror game made by Funcom and released in October 2015 on PC, with versions for PlayStation, Xbox and Switch following. It is set in the world of Funcom's online game The Secret World. The store puts its length at one to two hours.

It opens on a day at the park, a lost teddy bear and a missing child. As the sun sets over Atlantic Island Park, you walk its paths in search of your son Callum and step onto the rides, among them the Ferris Wheel, the Bumper Cars and the Rollercoaster. The park was opened in 1977 by an eccentric businessman, and its past of freak accidents, grotesque killings and hauntings comes through as you explore.

There are no fights and nothing to manage. The fear comes from being a parent who cannot find her child, from the rides that start moving on their own, and from being inside Lorraine's mind as panic and paranoia take hold. The store warns that the story deals with subject matter some players may find emotionally distressing.

It suits players who want a short, story-led horror game they can finish in an evening, in the line of walking simulators such as Layers of Fear.

How to play The Park

  1. Buy it on Steam, GOG or a console store and start the game.
  2. Walk through the park in first person in search of Callum.
  3. Step onto the rides as you reach them; the story moves on through them.
  4. Look around each area to learn Lorraine's story and the park's history.

Tips

  • Play it in one sitting with headphones; it is short and built on mood.
  • Take your time between rides; the park's dark history is told through what you find on the way.
