What frightens On Halloween night you clear up your dead parents' house in a dark suburb while strangers in masks and costumes keep coming to the door. Everyone is dressed to scare, so the dread is in not knowing which caller is only playing; blood, severed limbs and jumpscares show what happens when you guess wrong.

Content: jumpscares, gore, chase sequences.

Trick or Treat is a free, short first-person horror game by nasu173 set on Halloween night. As Michael, home to sort out his late parents' house, you do chores and answer the door to costumed visitors, and have to work out which of them is truly dangerous.

About Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat is the first game by the solo maker nasu173, released free on itch.io for Windows in October 2025. It is a short Unity game in English and Chinese, and its page says it has passed 10,000 downloads.

You play Michael, who has come back to his childhood home after his parents' deaths to take care of things. It is Halloween night. The game gives you plain tasks with a counter in the corner, such as pulling the weeds in the garden, taking out the rubbish and turning on the lights, and in between, the doorbell rings. Neighbours and trick-or-treaters in masks and paper-bag heads stand on the porch, and you talk to each of them.

The idea at the heart of it is simple: on Halloween everyone dresses up to be scary, so how do you know when something truly terrifying is at your door? The quiet suburb, the dark rooms and the friendly chatter build up to blood, gore and jumpscares, and a chase that the maker tuned after launch.

It suits players who want a quick seasonal scare in the spirit of the many short itch.io horror games about a night alone in a house, with a Halloween twist and a story twist players mention in the comments.

Tips

  • Read each task's counter in the corner of the screen; the night moves on as you finish them.
  • Pay attention to what each visitor says and wears; that is the game.
  • Play at night with headphones for the full effect.
  • If your antivirus flags the download, the maker says it is a plain Unity build and safe, but you can skip it if unsure.
